The subject of the Laboratory’s Research and Teaching is the study of Social Problems, Contemporary Social Trends and Theories for religion and culture, issues related to the social analysis of educational reality and social dimensions of Environmental and Bioethical issues, as well as Religiosity and social parameters of the Pastoral Theology. In particular, the research focus of the laboratory responds to the needs of sociological, socioethical and pastoral training, and practice of undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department of Theology, students of other humanities and social sciences as well as other stakeholders, executives and professionals as well as ecclesiastical executives.

The main aim of research and teaching within the Laboratory’s operation is the interdisciplinary research on the fields of Social Sciences and Social Theory, Pastoral Theology and Ethics. In this direction, organizing and conducting direct and long-term research at the University, the local community, the Church will contribute to the individual scientific fields and will open up prospects for interdisciplinary, university and transnational synergy.

The operation of the Laboratory will include a series of initiatives such as the holding of open scientific meetings, the preparation and presentation of a strategic research plan, interdisciplinary meetings and participation in Conferences, the organization and implementation of research projects, cooperation in all forms with national and foreign research centers and academic institutions, the submission of proposals for educational and research programs to educational, social and church bodies. The results of the research will be material for further research activity at doctoral level and will be presented on the website of the Laboratory and in scientific journals. A broad description of research focus includes topics, such as: a.) Interaction of religious and cultural factors in shaping social reality, b.) Social problems, welfare state and social care in local society, in the Church and in NGOs, c.) Social theories about religious phenomena in modern reality d.) Christianity and contemporary social issues, e.) Environmental ethics, f.) Bioethics, g.) Pastoral issues in the modern world, h.) State Church relations, i.) religious freedom and human rights, j.) the institution of the family, k.) Education, religion, culture, l.) Science and ethics etc.
